Baseball Hall of Famer and one of the greatest third basemen of all times Eddie Mathews was born on this day 1931. Mathews who played most of his career with the Braves finished his career with 512 home runs and 1453 runs batted in. He was also the only player to play for the Braves in Boston/Milwaukee and Atlanta. He was a 12 time All-Star. After playing with the Braves from 1952-66, he played for the Houston Astros in 1967 and the Detroit Tigers in 1967-68. Mathews was also on the cover of the very first Sports Illustrated magazine. Eddie Mathews died in 2001 at the age of 69.
