On this day in 1888 the Washington Monument officially opened to the general public. I’ve been up it a few times. Once as a kid I walked down the steps from the top to the bottom. Thought the steps were never going to end. The monument was damaged with that earthquake last summer and closed for repairs.

i have been do DC a couple of times. like the place a lot. will have to coordinate and see if we can get there at the same time and have a walk about and see our favorite places.
A few days in D.C would be great. Living as close as I do..I’ve been able to go countless times.. plus I go every year with my 8th graders. great place.

I too walked down the steps as a kid! I was afraid of elevators at the time, and insisted that I walk down. My parent ended up going along with my inistence. I remember that we all felt our legs were wobbly and about to fall off by the time we reached the bottom. 🙂
I can’t imagine…walking UP those steps!
