On this day in 1976 Pittsburgh Pirate pitcher Bob Moose was killed on his birthday in an automobile accident in Martin’s Ferry, Ohio. Bob Moose’s career had some ups and downs. He pitched a no-hitter. He was also the pitcher who threw the infamous wild pitch in Game 5 of the 1972 NLCS [back then it was a best of 5} sending the Reds to the World Series and what was probably the best Pittsburgh Pirate team home for the winter. Bob Moose was only 29 years old. I drive by where Bob Moose was killed on my way to school everyday.
