On this day in 1945 the “Curse of the Billy Goat” was supposedly put on the Chicago Cubs. The owner of the Billy Goat Tavern, Billy Sianis was asked to leave the World Series game between the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago Cubs because his pet goats odor was bothering fans. He was understandably upset and declared “The Cubs, the aren’t gonna win no more” which has been taken to mean that the Cubs will never win another World Series game at Wrigley Field again. The Cubs have not been to the World Series since 1945. They have not won a World Series since 1908. There have been attempts to ‘reverse the curse’ but so far none have worked.
