Former Television Host Ed Sullivan-“The Ed Sullivan Show” Born This Day 1901

Ed Sullivan who was the host of “The Ed Sullivan Show” from 1948 to 1971 on television was born on this day in 1901. The Ed Sullivan Show was a variety show on Sunday Nights. It was must see television back when television was a 3 network deal.  Ed Sullivan would never made it on television today. His mannerisms were awkward, he really had no talent. He was colorless and boring but everyone tuned into his show on Sunday Nights.

The Beatles appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show in early 1964 were historic and still talked about. They came to America and were on Ed Sullivan. Many future rockers saw those performances and went and bought a guitar.

The Ed Sullivan Show’s ratings started to fall and in 1971 the show was finally cancelled. We have nothing like it today on television. Ed Sullivan died in 1974 at the age of 73.
