Singer-Entertainer Andy Williams Dead At 84/ Ten Notes On Andy Williams

Andy Williams

Singer-Entertainer Andy Williams died yesterday at age 84. A couple months ago the news came out that he had terminal cancer and was not going to take any more treatment. I knew some things about Andy Williams but I read up on him a little at that time and from what I’ve read he sounds like he was a pretty decent fellow.

Ten Notes On Andy Williams

1. When his ex-wife Claudine Longet was up for murdering her boyfriend Spider Sabich in Aspen in 1976, Williams was at her side during the trial and testified on her behalf and provided legal assistance.

2.Andy Williams was friends with Bobby and Ethel Kennedy. He campaigned for RFK. Andy Williams was at the Ambassador Hotel the night RFK was assassinated. Williams at the request of Ethel Kennedy sang “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” at RFK’s funeral. He stayed close to the Kennedy family after RFK’s death

3.Andy Williams named his son after Bobby Kennedy.

4.Andy Williams sang the National Anthem before Super Bowl VII in 1973 in New Orleans.

5.Andy was the first non-country act in Branson, Missouri.

6. Back in the 1970’s when the evil Richard Milhaus Nixon and his administration tried to have Beatle John Lennon deported, Andy Williams was an outspoken defender of Lennon’s right to remain in the United States.

7. In the 1960’s Andy signed a contract that was at the time the biggest in recording history. Andy Williams would end up with 18 gold records and 3 platinum records.

8.The Andy Williams TV show was on television from 1962-71.

9.His signature song was “Moon River” It was never a chart hit, never released as a single. Kind of like “Stairway To Heaven’ with Led Zeppelin.

10. Andy Williams was a life long Republican.

    • Jimmy’s birthday is coming up..just saying.. Nixon had his good points but in the end I have to give him a failing grade..I attack both sides.. but I like Nixon a lot more than I do Carter…
