On this day in 1973 Billie Jean King defeated Bobby Riggs in “The Battle of the Sexes” tennis match that was held in Houston’s Astrodome. King won the match- 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. Bobby Riggs was 55 years old at the time. Riggs was a hustler and he got a lot of media attention and build-up for this match. Over 30,000 attended the match and that is still a record for the most to attend a tennis match in the United States.

wonder if something like this could happen today? i think serena would blow someone like jimmy connors or john mac away, just from a point her skill set versus their age.
i was thinking the same thing.. a john McEnroe would be in his 50’s now.. i think Serena would kill him.
