On this day in 1981 Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel reunited for a concert in Central Park, New York City. An estimated 500,000 people attended this free concert. The success of this concert inspired Paul and Artie to go back out on tour in 1982/1983. The concert at Central Park was released as a live album and the concert was later shown on HBO.
The part of the Concert In Central Park that I always remember is when Paul sang his new song “The Late Great Johnny Ace” the fan who ran out on stage and said he had to talk to Paul. Paul Simon was visibly shaken. Keep in mind this was less than a year after the assassination of John Lennon not that far away from where the concert was being held.

I love Simon and Garfunkel. A little while ago, I watched a doc on Paul Simon’s Graceland album – composed a few years later. Very interesting how it created so much controversy.
