Sad to see the passing of NFL Films President Steve Sabol. Too bad the Pro Football Hall of Fame didn’t see fit to put Steve and his father into the Hall of Fame at the same time a year ago. NFL Films has a lot to do with the popularity of the sport today. I think both Sabol’s should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame so should John Facenda “The Voice of God” during the early days of NFL films and Sam Spence the man who composed most of the great music NFL Films uses.
I always enjoyed Steve Sabol’s humor. He hosted a lot of the NFL films. He was in poor health last year when he introducted his father into the Hall of Fame.

no way to quantify this, but no way does the NFL become what it is without the vision of the Sabols. The NFL and NFL films had some very savvy people in the media and marketing areas. try looking up baseball on youtube and you will see what i mean. what a great confluence of events to be able to film the games, have facenda narrate, and be able to write things that just stick in your head.
‘the autumn wind’
have to say my favorite is ‘….the waterbug and whippet backs rarely survive the wail and the howl of the banshee….’
I very much grew up on Steve Sabol and NFL films. Before the internet and all the talking head shows on ESPN, NFL films were on all the time. I used to love the Superbowl marathon they would run before super sunday. Every time I would hope the results of the Viking’s games would change! RIP
