J.D. Tippet, the Dallas police officer who was murdered by Lee Oswald, after Oswald had assassinated President Kennedy, was born on this day in 1924.

After his murder, people in the United States was moved to donate nearly $650,000 to Tippet’s family. Abraham Zapruder , the man who filmed the assassination donated $25,000 of the $150,000 he received when selling his film to Life Magazine to the Tippet family.
