On this day in 1963 the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama was bombed. Four young African-American girls were killed when a dynamite bomb planted by members of the Ku Klux Klan exploded. The four girls were Addie Mae Collins, Cynthia Wesley, Carol Robertson and Denise McNair. Years later the sub-humans who did this were caught, tried and convicted. It’s hard to believe that there are people out there who have hearts filled with so much hate.
This event would mark a turning point in the 1960’s Civil Rights Movement and would contribute to the passing of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Thank you “slice the life” for remembering these four little girls. I am happy that children go straight to heaven! ❤
I had forgotten that this was the date of the tragic event. Thanks for reminding me. All day, I had been struggling with the post I put on my blog and I couldn’t keep the thoughts of Mrs. Drew and another lady I met who was in the church when the bombing occurred. I kept wondering if I should express my thoughts about the protests happening around the world today or not. I wanted to be respectful of Mrs. Drew’s memory and also, let others know that she would have been ok with my expressions because she would appreciated my take on things with a different view and a sense of respectful humor. Now I know, I did the correct thing. Thanks for posting this day in history!
As always Hans – great work.
I am like you, i really do not get people that just want to see the world burn.
