Pete Rose aka Charlie Hustle broke Ty Cobb’s all time baseball hit record on this day in 1985 with a single off of the Padres Eric Show. Rose ended his career with 4256 hits in his career. It is too bad Ichiro didn’t come to America at age 20 and begin his MLB career, I think he could have given that record a run if he had. Ichiro didn’t play his first MLB game until he was 27. Anyways. Rose’s hits record will be hard to beat.
I will say something nice about Rose today. I wish every ballplayer put out the effort on the field that he did. There was never any let up. 110% all the time.

ichiro if he had started here would have put the hits record out of reach
Pete Rose was the man, played like they did in the early 20th century. I would think that’s how Ty Cobb, the Georgia Peach, played.
I can remember when Rose was getting close to Cobb’s mark I was secretly hoping that somehow he wouldn’t break the Georgia Peach’s record. I’d always been a Tigers fans and had never liked any of the teams Rose played for, or, for that matter, his brash attitude.
Of course, being much older and a little wiser, I’m now able to appreciate the hustle and ethic he brought to the game, though I have to question his character as a person. He could play ball, though.
Agree with you on Rose.. he was bound and determined to break that record…of course being the manager and being able to put yourself in the line up everyday helped..
