Charles Kuralt the CBS newsman best known for his “On The Road with Charles Kuralt” pieces for the CBS Evening News and for hosting the Sunday Morning show was born this day in 1934.

I loved those “On The Road” pieces. A few years ago they put a lot of them out on DVD[ 3 box sets have been put out} Those short pieces are classics.

Kuralt was an interesting man who after his death- it was found out that he was leading a couple different lives. He had 2 families. Maybe he hadn’t been “on the road’ as often as they thought. He always came across as a likeable sort.

He died at the age of 62. I was shocked that he was that young. He did not take very good care of himself.
