The Pledge of Alligiance was first recited on this day in 1892. It was composed by Francis Bellamy. In 1942 the United States Congress would adopt it. Over the years there have been four revisions to the Pledge of Alligiance, the last in 1954 when the ‘under god’ was added.
A landmark day….
absolutely. lots of things on this day in history.
Perhaps a stupid question but here goes – In 1944 “under God” was added to the pledge. The constitution clearly outlines the separation of church and state. Call me a silly Canadian but why?
