
Jimmie Rodgers who is considered to be the “Father of Country Music” was born on this day in 1897. He was from Meridian, Mississippi.He would die of tuberculosis at age 35 in 1933. Jimmie Rodgers was known as the “Singing Breakman” and was famous for his yodeling songs. His song “Blue Yodel #10” is listed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the 500 songs that shaped rock and roll. When the Country Music Hall of Fame opened its doors in 1961 Rodgers was one of the first three to be inducted into its hall [along with Hank Williams and Fred Rose}
