College Football Preview – Non AQ and Notre Dame

Going to go with a little bit of a hypothetical discussion here:

School A – Over the last 15 years your program has been languishing, going 107-79 for a .575 winning percentage. You have gone through multiple coaches for many reasons. The fan base is upset with the direction of the program. The insiders of the program have an inflated sense of what their program means and its importance on the NCAA stage. Many outsiders pile on and take easy shots at the program because of its missteps. Deciding to take a chance and set forth a new path the school decides to leave its conference and join the best and most stable NCAA football conference, and is immediately accused of causing football Armageddon. Of course the school in question is Texas A&M.

School B – Over the last 15 years your program has been languishing, going 107-78 for a .578 winning percentage. You have gone through multiple coaches for many reasons. The fan base is upset with the direction of the program. The insiders of the program have an inflated sense of what their program means and its importance on the NCAA stage. Many outsiders pile on and take easy shots at the program because of its missteps. EXCEPT that your program has a national tv contract and its own rules for getting into the Mythical National Championship. Of course this is Notre Dame football. And every single year the hype FAR exceeds the the product on the field.
No one would ever confuse Texas A&M for Notre Dame, yet for the last 15 years the programs are virtually identical, only one is overhyped ridiculously every season, and the other is mocked for trying to play with the big boys.

With that enjoy another mediocre season Irish.

Of the other independents – BYU will make a bowl, Army will just miss and Navy will have the best overall season.

Other Conferences – not going to do team capsules on every team.

C-USA

Should be a three team affair in the east – with UCF, Marshall, and So Miss. In the west if Houston gets over the loss of coach Kevin Sumlin quickly, the division is between Tulsa and the Cougars.

Prediction Tulsa vs So Miss – with Tulsa the Conference Champion.

MAC

Ohio should win the east division, though Miami and Bowling Green may have something to say about that. West comes down to Toledo and Northern Illinois.

Ohio vs Northern Illinois – Northern Illinois Conference Champion.

Mountain West

Should come down to two old friends – Nevada and Boise St.

Boise State continues the run winning the conference outright.

Sun Belt

Two team race here between Arkansas State and Florida International.

Arkansas State wins conference outright.

WAC

Louisiana Tech should be the best team in this conference and will win the WAC outright.

  1. ugh this post almost made me stop writing today – would not post at all – 7 attempts. would not post correctly 5 attempts. three browser resets and 2 reboots later i finally did it.

  2. I didn’t realize that the Aggies and Irish records were so alike… you’d never know it by the hype machine that goes with the Irish.. you’d think they were in the National Title hunt every year…most overhyped overblown team in the history of sports. Its so much fun to root against them!!
