Travel author William Least-Heat-Moon turns 73 today. He was born William Trogdon. He is of English, Irish and Osage Indian ancestry. His most famous book was “Blue Highways’ which spent 42 weeks on the best-seller lists back in 1982-83. In 1978 after losing his job and his separating from his first wife he went on a 3 month trip on the back highways and secondary roads around the country, traveling 13,000 miles. He would write about what he saw and experienced in small town America.
My favourite book of William-Least Heat Moon’s is “PrairyErth” where he went to Chase County, Kansas and walked the roads, went to the towns and wrote a history of the county and the people there. William-Least Heat-Moon has written seven books.
