The first televised baseball game was shown on station W2XBS which is now called WNBC. on this day in 1939. The great Red Barber called the action between the Cincinnati Reds and the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, New York. It is estimated that 3000 people watched the game. Few people had television sets at that time.
First televised game I saw was 1945 – a schoolmate’s dad worked at GE on radar research and converted a CRT, built his own set.
He sat in the living room reading the newspaper all through the game. He didn’t like baseball. 🙂
