William Wallace who was a Scottish Knight and landowner who fought for Scottish independence against the British King Edward I [the “Hammer of The Scots”} was put on trial for treason. Wallace said in his defense that he could never have been a traitor to King Edward I because he was never his subject. William Wallace was found guilty, hanged and drawn and quartered.
William Wallace was the subject of the 1995 classic film “Braveheart” which won 5ive Academy Awards including Best Picture. Mel Gibson starred as William Wallace. The film had been nominated for ten Academy Awards that year. I went and saw “Braveheart” twice when it was out at the theaters but haven’t seen it since. I think it is about time to give it another look!
