Baseball’s Julio Franco- 54 Today/ He Was The Last Active Ballplayer Who Was OlderThan I Was

Baseball’s Julio Franco who played in the major leagues until the age of 49 -turns 54 today. Julio Franco played from 1982 until 2007. He was a very good ballplayer. A career .298 hitter. He had over 2500 hits. My main reason for liking this ballplayer is- he is the last Major League Baseball player who was older than I am. Odd but the last two players who were older than I am were named Franco. Julio Franco and John Franco.

How quickly time flies. I remember when Fernando Valenzuela broke into MLB. He was born [supposedly} the same month and year I was. He was the first player my age in the majors. You blink your eyes a few times and then-then there are no players left older than you.

The odd thing in football is- also the two players who were older than me were named Anderson/Andersen Gary and Morton.
