The Great Robert Plant who will always be most known as the singer for Led Zeppelin, turns 64 today. Robert Plant has to be one of the best singers in rock history. John Lennon is my personal favourite but Robert Plant is surely up there on the Mount Rushmore of rock singers. He also wrote most of the lyrics to the Led Zeppelin songs, starting with Led Zeppelin II.

With the death of drummer John Bonham in 1980, Led Zeppelin wisely called it a day. Plant and Page have worked together on albums since, they have toured together and Led Zeppelin have reunited with John Bonham’s son on drums for a concert as recently as 2007 but they have never toured again as Led Zeppelin and they’ve never released another Led Zeppelin album of new material. Smart men.  Robert Plant has released a number of solo albums over the years and his album with bluegrass artist Alison Krauss won the Grammy Award for best album a few years ago.
