“Black Saturday” This Day 1988 Yellowstone National Park Fires

August 20th, 1988 was called “Black Saturday” at Yellowstone National Park. It was the worst day of the fires of 1988 at Yellowstone. More than 150,000 acres were consumed that day in the firestorms. The arrival of cool and moist weather in the late fall brought an end to the fires. 36 % of  Yellowstone National Park was affected by the fires.
