On  this day in 1909 a dirt track was opened in Indianapolis, Indiana. This dirt track would become the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Home of the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400. The first Indianapolis 500 was held in 1911. Three drivers are tied with the most wins at Indy- A.J. Foyt, Al Unser Sr and Rick Mears.

The first Brickyard 400 NASCAR race was held in 1994. Two drivers Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson have 4 wins each.
