Major League Baseball Team Salaries- Not Equalling Success This Year

Alex Rodriguez Of New York

There are 9 teams that are paying out over $100 million in salaries this year in Major League Baseball and as of this moment 6 of those 9 teams are out of the playoffs. The biggest flops are Philadelphia and Boston who are #2 and #3 in team salaries. They are not going to be in the playoffs. The Red Sox look like one of those mid to late 1980’s Yankee teams that just spent money to spend money. A lot of pieces that do not seem to fit and a lot of money on players who are not giving much back in performance. At this point in time it seems to me that  the Yankees are pretty much a sure lock every season to make the playoffs. No one else is.

Out of the 30 teams- some of the teams that are doing well and are in the lower half of the salary table are Atlanta, Cincinnati  and Washington who seem to be locks for the post-season and Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay and Oakland who have shots at making it.

The Yankees always seem to blow money. $29 million on A-Rod this year. There are players in the minors who if given the chance can out perform him this year. But the Yankees always seem to survive their mistakes. Their rivals the Red Sox look like a total mess.

below the 2012 team salary chart.
