We have reached mid-August and there have been no managers fired yet during this Major League Baseball season. I am going to have to do some research and see when the last season no managers were fired was. At this point with 6 weeks to go I see no one going unless it is one of those last weekend of the season deals where they fire the manager and let the third base coach finish the year. My candidate for the one to go is Jim Tracy in Colorado. They have been terrible this year and having seen Tracy manage my Pirates a few years ago, well, the Casey Stengel couldn’t have won with those teams but I wasn’t overly impressed with Tracy {Having said that if he were managing the Yankees he’d be doing fine but then again if I were the manager of the Yankees I’d do fine also} Anyway. I don’t see Tracy managing next year in Colorado. But they are so far out at this point in the year why not let him finish the year out? Other candidates Bobby Valentine in Boston. They have more problems in Boston than Bobby Valentine but he has always been a lightning rod. I have no idea WHY they hired him in the off-season. If I were Ned Yost I’d be making no big real estate purchases in Kansas City either.
On a postive note- the man who Jim Tracy replaced in Colorado, Clint Hurdle has to be the NL manager of the year with the job he has done with the 19 losing seasons in a row Pirates. In the American League its a three way race between Bucky Showalter in Baltimore, Robin Ventura in Chicago and Bob Melvin in Oakland.

I’m with you on Bobby Valentine. What WERE they thinking? We were a litlte worried that the Phils would make people here panic and that Charlie would pay, but saner heads prevailed. We’ve been enjoying watching from this end of the state as the Pirates have become an actual team. Might just have to make a trip to Pittsburgh and see the stadium at some point if this keeps up. And having been born in Baltimore, it is a lovely thing to see the team winning again for a change. That’s another road trip that is over due, maybe when I take the munchkin (age 4.5) to visit my stepson at Maryland in Sept, we will actually get to Camden Yards.
PNC Is a jewel.. make the trip.. One of the best lines ever- when PNC opened some ESPN guy said “the pirates playing at PNC Park is like a homeless man wearing a tuxedo”…finally they have a team!.. A lot of injuries etc in Philly.. I don’ t think they can improve on Charlie Manuel as manager..
2006 no managers were fired during the year.
wow i thought it would be like 50 years ago…
and i would concur – pnc is a great park. the views are nice. it is in shape the mirror image (imho) of the juice box in houston, without the stupid hill and flagpole.
and without the dome..i remember when we went i was wearing my sun glasses..forgot my glasses in the car..we were inside before i remembered i didn’t have my glasses….oh well…
