The Beatles launched their record label “Apple” on this day in 1968. The Beatles would release their own material on the label but they also had many others who would become stars, Billy Preston, Badfinger, James Taylor, Mary Hopkins and Ravi Shankar. Yoko Ono also recorded for Apple.
The Granny Smith Apple would be on the A-side and B-side had the midsection of an apple cut in half. Over the years Apple was managed by Beatles assistant Neil Aspinall who died of lung cancer at the age of 66 in 2008. Neil Aspinall was a rare individual. Anyone and everyone involved in The Beatles story wrote books telling what they knew. Neil knew things no one knew. Neil Aspinall kept his mouth shut.
