Berlin was chosen to host the 1916 Olympic Games winning over Alexandria, Amsterdam, Brussels, Budapest, and Cleveland. The Berlin Games were not to be in 1916. Due to a little event called “World War I” the games were cancelled. Berlin would eventually hold the Hitler Olympic Games of 1936.

Back in the ancient times it was the other way around. They would suspend wars for the Olympics. In 1916, 1940 and 1944 World Wars would force Olympic Games to be cancelled.
