Wiley Post Flies Solo Around the World- This day in 1933

On this day in 1933 American aviator Wiley Post becomes the first person to fly solo around the world. He traveled 15,596 miles in 7 days, 18 hours and 45 minutes. He arrived back in American to a heroes welcome.

Wiley Post would be killed at the age of 36 on August 15th, 1935 when his plane crashed upon takeoff from a lagoon near Point Barrow in Alaska. In death Wiley Post would not receive top billing though-along with Post in the plane was the famous humorist Will Rogers.
