John Dillinger Goes to the Biograph Theater to see “Manhattan Melodrama” on this day in 1934

They finally caught up with bank robber and murderer John Dillinger on this day in 1934.  The 31 year old Dillinger was leaving the Biograph Theater after going to see “Manhatten Meladrama” in Chicago when federal agents moved to arrest him. Dillinger pulled out a weapon and attemped to flee but was gunned down.

John Dillinger was the most notorious of the depression era outlaws. A great book on all of them is “Public Enemies: America’s Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the F.B.I. 1933-34” by Bryan Burroughs. The movie is pretty good also.

    • that would be a story you’d tell the rest of your life…even if you were there in the theater that night..
