Great Western Vacation- Grand Canyon- From The Village to Hermit’s Rest

After the walk along the Rim Trail for 2.5 miles we reached The Village. A number of lodges, souvenir stores, places to eat there. To get any further you had to either walk or take the shuttle bus which drops you off at different overlooks and ends up at Hermit’s Rest at the end of the road.

We got on the shuttle bus and got off at all the overlooks-which were Powell Point, Hopi Point, Mohave Point, The Abyss, Monument Creek Vista, Pima Point and Hermit’s Rest. All of the overlooks were worth getting off the bus and viewing. Another bus generally came along to pick you up every 15 minutes. It amazed me how many people just stayed on the bus and didn’t get off. What was the point? They didn’t want to lose their seat I guess but in not getting off the bus they didn’t see very much. The views from the bus were nothing to write home about- you had to get off the bus to get the great views of the Grand Canyon. It took us 3 hours round trip to get off at every overlook, get back on the bus etc. Well worth the time spent. All the overlooks were great I especially liked the ones further out away from The Village where you could see the mighty Colorado River. Would love someday to go rafting on the Colorado through the Grand Canyon.
