Day 1- Monday June 11th- 2012.. Was a day of travel. From eastern Ohio across the Buckeye State and into Indiana. Drove across Indiana and then cut southwest into Illinois making it into Springfield -the Land of Lincoln in the late afternoon. It was too late to see any of the sites. Things were closing within the hour.
Springfield- is the capital city of Illinois and was our favorite city on the vacation. 116,000 people live here but in the two days we spent here there was never that much traffic. The streets seemed very safe. The only crime seemingly going on in Illinois is by the politicians. 4 governors of Illinois in 4 decades have spent time in prison. There was a t-shirt for sale in one of the stores with the pictures of the prison serving governors on it that said “We Are Tough On Governors”
Had the best meal on the entire trip on Day 1- at an Irish Pub named “D’Arcy’s”-Shepherd’s Pie.
Got info on all the Lincoln sites that we were to see on Day 2. I have read more about Lincoln than any other president. Although I have done a lot of traveling in my life I had never been to Springfield and I had always wanted to see the the places where Lincoln became- Lincoln.
