Back in the summer of 92- I spent 6 weeks traveling the country- going to baseball games at different ballparks and going to historical sites, National Parks, etc. I had the general feeling back in June/July of 92 that President Bush was in trouble. The feeling I got as I travelled was that people were wanting change after 12 years of Reagan and GHW Bush. I had nothing to base this on-just a feeling.
This is another election year-and maybe 2 weeks out wasn’t long enough to give me a feeling about this year but I have no feeling at all at from travelling around -how this election is going to go. I heard little talk about it. I didn’t talk to as many people this time out. I can’t recall seeing one sign for Obama or for Romney. Right now in late June if I had to pick who would win- I”d just flip a coin. I think it could go either way.
A story from another election year. In 1994 I did much of the same -travelled around for a month in the summer. I remember in Texas- at a ballgame in Arlington- to see the Rangers and their new ballpark. I had a long conversation with a man who seemed very up on Texas politics. I got into a discussion about the son of a president who was running for governor. GW Bush. This guy went on and on about how “No one will have to worry about this guy-Anne Richards is going to kick his ass and he’ll never be heard from again”…..Well we know how that story ended.
i get the same apathetic feeling about this as you noticed. i think that the passion will be there as we get closer to november. not sure. i think a lot of people just have their collective heads in the sand, hoping that all of this just goes away.
