On this day in 1948- Babe Ruth Day at Yankee Stadium. They had a day for the dying Babe just like the had for the dying Lou Gehrie earlier in the decade. Ruth, the greatest ballplayer who ever lived- had a little over 2 months to live. Ruth came to say goodbye to his fans. From the pitchers I’ve seen he looked awful. He didn’t look like the Babe. A very sad day in baseball.

On a side note- 2 future major league ballplayers were born on the date that The Bambino died. Mike Jorganson a journymen first baseman outfielder and a pitcher Scipio Spinks. Neither had remarkable careers although Jorganson had a fairly long career.
