Howlin’ Wolf- born Chester Arthur Burnett was born on this date 102 years ago. Howlin’ Wolf was a huge man, 6’6″ 3oo pounds and his huge growling voice was like no other that I’ve ever heard. Sun Studio’s Sam Phillips considered Howlin’ Wolf to be his greatest discovery. Sam Phillips also discovered Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Charlie Rich and Roy Orbison. Phillips said about Wolf “When I heard Howlin’ Wolf I said this is for me. This is where the soul of man never dies.” Howlin’ Wolf was a force of nature. He had several heart attacks in the late 60’s and early 70’s,  He died of kidney disease in 1976. His guitarist Hubert Sumlin died just a few month ago.
