Larry Robinson-Winner. 61 today

Larry Robinson+ turns 61 today. Larry Robinson was one of the greatest defensemen in the history of the NHL. He played mostly with the Montreal Canadians back in the 1970s-80’s. One thing I find fascinating about Robinson is he had the greatest career plus/minus ever. Plus/Minus is a simple stat they keep. If you are on the ice when your team scores you get a + 1. If you are on the ice when the ot…her team scores you get a =1. In a single season the best ever is +124 by the great Bobby Orr. Robinson has the second best single season ever at +120. For a career though Robinson has by far the best at a +730. Orr is second at +597. When Robinson was on the ice good things usually happened for his team. Nothing usually happened for his opponents. You wanted a Larry Robinson on your team. His nickname was “Big Bird” He is 6’4″ 225 pounds. Montreal won 6 Stanley Cups when he played. He also won a Stanley Cup at a head coach with New Jersey. He is currently an assistant coach with New Jersey who are playing for the Stanley Cup right now. I think this also says something about Robinson. He was fired as New Jersey’s head coach during the 2000-01 season. He came back the following year as an assistant coach with the same team. How many teams would fire a head coach and then bring him back as an assistant? How many fired coaches would even consider coming back to the team that fired them-at a lower position? Larry Robinson is a winner.
