The Beatles Song Of The Day is “Nowhere Man.” “Nowhere Man” is on The Beatles “Rubber Soul” album. The song was written by John Lennon. It was the third of John Lennon’s songs that were confessions of his personal inadequacy. John in later interviews would say this was written during his “fat Elvis” period. The Beatles were on top of the world but John wasn’t happy. He seemed cut off from reality, his marriage was falling apart[but he had yet to meet Yoko.} At this point he was sinking into drug use. With the songs on “Rubber Soul” The Beatles were making another great leap forward in the quality of their song writing. ‘Nowhere Man” has always been one of my favourite Beatles songs. John Lennon: double-tracked vocal and acoustic rhythm guitar/ Paul McCartney: harmony vocal and bass guitar/ George Harrison: harmony vocal and lead guitar/ Ringo Starr: drums. The song was recorded on October 21 and 22, 1965 at Abbey Road. Producer: George Martin.
Rating “Nowhere Man” on a scale of 1 to 5 stars ***** a classic.
- Rolling Stone Magazine ranked at #66 on their “The Beatles 100 Greatest Songs’ list. Spignesi and Lewis ranked it #13 on their “100 Best Beatles Songs” list. I tend to agree more with Spignesi and Lewis on this song.
- Length of song 2:44.
- “Nowhere Man’ was not released as a single in the United Kingdom but in the United States it reached #3 on the Billboard Top 100 chart.
- The Beatles would play “Nowhere Man” in concerts in 1965 and 1966.
- John Lennon would later say he was disappointed in the lyrics. He thought they were trite. John at times was super critical of his work.
- John on the writing of “Nowhere Man, “I’d spent five hours that morning trying to write a song that was meaningful and good, I finally gave up and lay down. Then “Nowhere Man’ came, the words and music, the whole damn thing as I lay down.”
