The Minister Of Defense- Reggie White Born This Day 1961

One of the great defensive ends in football history Reggie White was born on this day in 1961. Reggie White went to the University of Tennessee where he was an All-American and SEC Player of the Year his senior season. His first two seasons of professional football were spent with the Memphis Showboats of the USFL. He then went to the NFL where he starred with the Philadelphia Eagles from 1985-92 before moving to the Green Bay Packers 1993-98. He finished his career in 2000 with the Carolina Panthers. I can’t even remember him with the Panthers. Reggie White was a 13 time Pro Bowl player, NFL.com ranks him as the 7th greatest player in football history. His uniform is retired by the University of Tennessee, the Eagles and the Packers. He is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Reggie White is in the College Football Hall of Fame. He has the second most sacks in NFL history behind Bruce Smith. White had 198.5 sacks in his career. White was also known for his religious beliefs. He was a leader. When he went to the Green Bay Packers they were lacking something-and White seemed to provide it. White’s only Super Bowl Championship as a player came with the Packers. Sadly, Reggie White died the day after Christmas in 2004 at the age of 43. White had suffered fatal cardiac arrhythmia.
