On this day in 1961 President John Kennedy sent 18,000 military advisors to South Vietnam. When Kennedy was assassinated in November of 1963 there were 16,000 US military advisers in Vietnam. There will always be a debate as to what would have happened in Vietnam if Kennedy had lived? We will never know but I don’t totally buy the JFK crowd that claim Vietnam wouldn’t have gotten out of hand under JFK. I figure we would have undergone the same nightmare. But again who knows???
