Scottish Folk-Rock singer-songwriter Al Stewart turns 67 today. In the 1970’s he had a few big hits in America. 1976 “The Year of the Cat” hit # 8 on the charts, in 1978 he came back with two hits on his “Time Passages” album- “Time Passages” hit #7 and “Song On The Radio” #29. He had a unique style of writing. A lot of his songs dealt with historical characters and events. He wrote songs about a variety of things, Warren Harding’s presidential scandals, Nazi’s on the run in South America after WWII, the French Revolution, World War I pilots being just a few of them.
He is still active and releasing albums. After the 70’s the hits dried up. I always liked his songwriting and his voice. You can’t go wrong with his 2 cd ‘best of”
