From the soundtrack of the movie Against All Odds- it seems like in the 1980s not only were duets popular but also singles from movie soundtracks. This was the second #1 in a row from a movie- the previous being “Footloose” from the King of 80’s Soundtracks’- and of Yacht Rock- Kenny Loggins. Another interesting fact- there were 16 #1 hits in 1984- and all of them were #1 for more than one week -except for one ‘Missing You’ by John Waite only lasted a week at the top. This was the first of seven solo #1 hits by Phil Collins in the 1984-89 time frame. Impressive.

  1. Another song I loved as a young child and continue to enjoy as a guilty pleasure. I think my favorite story about this song is that Phil Collins had already written this song and that he was asked to write a song with the movie title in it, so he just went and modified the lyrics to include “against the odds” (which isn’t the title of the movie but close enough).
