1971 Pirates- Game 20- Los Angeles Dodgers vs Pittsburgh Pirates at Three Rivers Stadium. 8:5 pm. Steve Blass the starting pitcher for the Pirates- Don Sutton going for the Dodgers.
- The Pirates went into the game having lost 3 of 4 games- and a loss would have put them at .500. Willie Stargell who last night hit home run #11- went homerless tonight but went 3-4 and knocked in 3 runs- he now has 26 on the season. What a great start to the season Stargell is having- and he even missed a few games due to illness last week.
- Duke Sims and Willie Crawford hit 2 run homers for the Dodgers.
- Neither starting pitcher distinguished himself tonight- Don Sutton gave up 5 runs-4 of them earned and 9 hits in 4.2 innings. For the Pirates Steve Blass picked up the win but gave up 5 runs and 10 hits in 7 innings. Closer Dave Giusti came in and pitched the 8th and 9 innings-giving up one hit- and picked up his 4th save.
- Another poorly attended game at Three Rivers- 6191. Time Of Game-2:16- which seems like science fiction in 2021 considering a total of 12 runs were scored. The 3 game series ends between the Dodgers and Pirates tomorrow night at 8:05 pm
