The Beatles Top 60 Solo Songs: #15: “Junior’s Farm”- Wings. Paul McCartney and his band Wings spent some time in Nashville, Tennessee in 1974- while they were there they stayed in Lebanon, Tennessee with songwriter Curly Putnam. The stay at Putnam’s farm inspired the writing of “Junior’s Farm” which as a single in late 1974 peaked at #3 in the Billboard Hot 100. McCartney based the lyrical theme on the great Bob Dylan song from a decade earlier “Maggie’s Farm.” Paul would say not too look into the song for any deep meaning – that the song basically means -“Let’s get out of the city.” The b-side also made my Top 60- “Sally G.”
This and Let Me Roll It are two great harder edge songs of Paul. This is one of my favorites. Jimmy Mcculloch did well on this song also. One of the songs of my early memories.
I like the creativity in the opening guitar and I like the way Paul sings this one.
Hearing the song again, I remember why Venus and Mars is my favorite Wings album.
Another one of Pauls songs I like. maybe for the reason Max pointed out.
