The Beatles Top 60 Solo Songs: #16: “Power To The People”- John Lennon. John Lennon released this single which went to #11 in 1970- it was during his radical revolutionary period. “I just felt inspired by what they said, although a lot of it is gobbledygook. So I wrote ‘Power to the People’ the same way I wrote ‘Give Peace A Chance’ as something for the people to sing. I make singles like broadsheets. It was another quickie, done at Ascot.” In the late 70’s Lennon would change his opinion on “Power To The People”- like he did countless other songs- and call it ‘rather embarrassing’- I’ve always liked it. Bernie Sanders would use this song as a campaign theme song for his failed campaigns for POTUS in 2016 and 2020.
