The Originals: Songs The Beatles Covered:” Twist And Shout”- The Isley Brothers. I only have to think about half a second on the question- what is the best song that The Beatles covered- it is the final song on their debut album Please Please Me- with John Lennon’s amazing vocal. The album was recorded in one day and it was the last song recorded- Lennon put everything he had left into “Twist And Shout”- a memorable vocal performance. The original came a year earlier with The Isley Brothers- it was their first Top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. “Twist And Shout” was written by Bert Berns and Phil Medley.
I’m with you, Hans, “Twist and Shout” by The Beatles is a great cover. In general, I like their covers of classic rock & roll tunes, particularly “Long Tall Sally”, “Roll Over Beethoven” and “Rock & Roll Music.”
Their rock and roll covers much better than stuff like “Till There Was Hugh”.. i mean You..
Till There Was Hugh, I like it – sounds like a Weird Al Yankovic parody! 🙂
On a more serious note, I totally agree with you about that tune.
I am currently working on ranking all the Beatles songs- that is at least a contender for the bottom of the list.
This sounds good, but you’re right, John gave it all singing their cover version. It’s a song that makes me want to get up and move around and sing along.
Both original and the Beatles cover are fantastic.
Also love the Beatles cover. A fave
