1973 had 27 #1 hits- and many were excellent- but in looking over the list- clearly this one stands alone as the best of a strong bunch. Guitarist Jeff Beck a fan of Stevie’s was involved in the Talking Book- and part of the deal was Stevie would write a song for him- that song was “Superstition.” Beck was going to release the song first but Motown head Berry Gordy was convinced that this would be a big hit and increase album sales so it ended up being released first. Rolling Stone ranked it #74 in their 500 Greatest Songs ever list.
