The Brooklyn Bridge- a pop band from Long Island, New York- had 7 Hot 100 singles from 1968-70- their biggest hit being ” The Worst That Could Happen” #3 1968 this first chart single. They were led by lead singer Johnny Maestro.
I had never heard of that band before. While they certainly made it their own, for which they deserve credit, I feel Neil Young’s original version is significantly better. As a huge Neil fan, I may not be entirely objective here! 🙂
I agree with you- you can’t top Neil’s original. Although I will say I once heard him stretch it out to 20 plus minutes in concert- that was more than I cared to hear.
Even as a fan, I will say 20 minutes sounds a bit brutal. Though I’d take that any day over Ginger Baker’s “Toad”, as much as I like drum solos! 🙂
I am not one for long solo’s- I saw Neil two nights in a row- and he did the 20 minute version both nights- c’mon Neil you have hundreds of great songs- you could have played at least 4 instead of the one 20 minute…
Ha, that’s funny. I think I’m with you there!
That’s why jam rock oftentimes only mildly excites me. I’m all for jammin’, but everything in moderation – I can take 6, maybe 8 minutes, but then it’s really time to wrap up!
I think Neil started to lose everyone–I can’t recall a longer jam in concert that i’ve attended.
It’s sounds like you had a traumatic experience there, Hans! 🙂
It was a great concert otherwise- Booker T. & The MG”s were his back up band.. 30-31 years ago.. seems like yesterday…. and Neil’s bus passed us on the day home- the old Buffalo Springfield bus.
