Man, you can only dream seeing mainstream charts like this nowadays. Lots of good stuff here. And I couldn’t agree more with you, Gerry Rafferty’s “Baker Street” is a fantastic tune!
Nothing much to dislike on this chart. It was a fun listen.
No Osmonds? 🙂
No Osmonds- No Captain And Tennille either! Good times
Ah, so there’s another of your favorite artists I just teased out of you. Should I do it you one ,more more time? 🙂
i think by 1978 Tony Orlando and Dawn had also run its course! … Someday I will have to get around to ranking Captain & Tennile’s hits. ….
Well, I would say if pains you, why putting any effort into it?
I prefer writing about music I love, especially these days, when there’s so much negativity around us! That’s why I’m so glad I’m not a music critic and won’t do any album or song reviews “on demand”!
I was just kidding about ranking Captain & Tennille. All the hits would rank in a tie for next to last place- with Muscrat Love coming in last.
Ha! 🙂
I remember that summer well. So many memories packed into those songs.
The summer before my senior year in h.s. . good times.
Baker Street should have been #1 for many weeks.
Summer before 7th grade. GREAT music…well, most of it. There are few I don’t recognize.
The only one I didn’t recognize was the Roberta Flack song which at least to me upon hearing it- is kind of bland. I know I heard it back then just not very memorable IMO.
I don’t remember or have ever heard Prove It All Night. I don’t remember Dave Mason’s version of Will You Still Love Me…and, I just read where it stopped at 39 and was his last Top 40 hit. I don’t remember Hot Love, Cold World.
The rest, I remember.
I think there were singles that just didn’t get much play on local stations- maybe they were Top 40 over the nation but in certain areas- no. I would listen to the Top 40 back then and there were songs that I would rarely if ever hear on my radio otherwise. Of course the ones in the Top 25 usually got play everywhere I figure.
Good point.
Are you listening to repeats to make your posts?
On the 70’s on 7- I listen every Saturday morning at 6am to a repeat of the American Top 40 that is replayed from back in the day- that is the one I feature. For the one I do mid-week on the 1980’s- I pick a Top 40 and listen to all the songs again on youtube.
Wow. Lots of research.
I love 70s on 7 on satellite but, I’m not getting up at 6:00am to hear it.
I am always up around that time.. they replay it during the weekend- but I always catch the first time.
Yeah. See. I rarely get to bed before 2:30am.
