  • Finally after five months the “Chicago Seven” trail of American anti war activists ends with a federal district court jury acquitting the group of charges of conspiracy to foment the rioting that took place at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. The seven were Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, David Dellinger, Tom Hayden, Rennie Davis, John Froines and Lee Weiner. Froines and Weiner were acquitted on all charges -the other five were convicted of crossing state lines in order to incite a riot. While they were sentenced to five years in prison the convictions would be overturned in November 1972 by the appellate court. Davis, Froines and Weiner are the only members of the seven still living.
