- SMOKEY ROBINSON: WHERE THERE’S SMOKE: 1979: SOUL. 3 1/2 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: VINYL: This is worth a buy just for the single “Crusin'” my favorite Smokey solo hit. The album is a little too disco-ish in spots.
- LOU REED: THE BELLS: 1979:ROCK: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: VINYL: Before joining up with Bruce Springsteen- guitarist Nils Lofgren had another boss- Lou Reed, briefly- as a writing partner. This record reminds me of his earlier solo days. Not his best album but an interesting listen.
- MOTOWN: COMPLETE #1’S- DISC 1: 2017: SOUL. POP. 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: APPLE: The 5 stars is for this disc not the entire box- which the more I am looking at it is full of issues- the singles included hit #1 on some chart somewhere. This leaves off a lot of superior material that failed to hit #1. In looking the box set over which goes in chronological order- they leave Detroit for LA on Disc 3. That leaves 7 discs of LA Motown. Who wants to hear that inferior stuff? Not I. I will probably listen to a few of these discs and move on.
