Sounds of Summer- Day 21 of 95- “Rain In The Summertime”- The Alarm.  Today closes three weeks of summer already? Summer is flying by. “Rain In The Summertime” is on the third album by The Alarm Eye Of The Hurricane in 1987. It was the first single released from the album and went to #18 in the UK chart. In the United States it peaked at #71. The song was written by The Alarm. The Alarm an alternative rock/ new wave band were formed in Rhyl, Wales. Their first album came out in 1985 and reminded me a little of U2- a group that they would open for- they would also open for Bob Dylan. One review of their debut nailed what there music sounded like pretty well I thought-“they play every song as if it’s the climax of their set.”A good overview of The Alarm is The Best Of The Alarm which collects 21 songs of theirs in an hour and 16 minutes. The Alarm is still out there- touring at the moment. I saw them open for Bob once back in the day-they put on a good show.

Like The Alarm- I like to feel the rain in the summertime also- not a downpour, not a violent thunderstorm but every once in a while a nice all day rain is needed to cool things down a little bit. “Rain In The Summertime” I believe is my favorite Alarm song.

    • I thought they would go on to be bigger than they were. Yes Sixty-Eight Guns the first Alarm song I recall hearing- and I knew then I’d like them too!

    • I seem to remember the lead singer just quit on stage one night…not the night I saw them but he just walked off when they were in their prime.

    • In looking at it- they had 5 albums then a gap of nearly a dozen years. I know the singer Mike Peters over the years had some serious health issues. Not that many years ago he toured as the singer for Big Country.

  1. The singer does sound like Bono. Some background guitar work reminds me of A Flock of Seagulls. And, they look like a cross between Duran Duran & A-Ha. Not bad. New song for me.

    • That would be awesome. I was looking at their schedule hoping they would be close by but not this time.
